Ever since I started drinking, I have heard the silly remarks – “Girls don’t drink whiskey” or “I never would have guessed you drank whiskey by looking at you.” I always have laughed because who decided who can or can not enjoy a beverage?  Well Jackie Zykan is changing the way people look at drinking whiskey.

Jackie is Old Forester’s Master Taster and holy bad*ss. She is so wise yet so real and we had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a private tasting with her. She reminded us that everyone has a different palate, that high proof doesn’t always mean better, and to truly drink what YOU enjoy how YOU like it. There are no rules and I thought that was something we all needed to hear. I know whiskey can be intimidating to some, but when you start learning the history and experimenting with cocktails on what works for you, you’re sure to be surprised. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience to sit with someone so awesome and get to connect on something you’re both so passionate about.

The tour was one of my favorites because how unique yet straight forward it is. I can’t even
count the amount of tours I’ve walked out of and thought to myself, wow that was cool, but I
remember nothing… When I left Old Forester’s tour, I had laughed so much, but also left
knowing more than ever about the beautiful spirit we call whiskey. Old Forester has one of the
coolest stories in my opinion, and although I truly feel YOU should go hear and see it for
yourself…here are a few fun facts!

– During prohibition Old Forester was able to continue production as a medicinal product.
– Out of the 6 whiskeys legal during prohibition, Old Forester is the only one that is still family
owned.
– Jackie Zykan is the first woman in Old Forester’s 150 years to have her name on the bottle.
We also had the honor of staying at the exclusive Whiskey Row Retreat and it really goes to
show how much Old Forester truly puts their perfect touch on everything they do. It was easily
one of the coolest places I have ever stayed. Although it is not open to the public, I took plenty
of photos to share with you here.

I want to thank the amazing Old Forester team for having Keaton and I out to Louisville and making us feel like part of the family. It was an experience I’ll never forget and I’m so excited to continue to bring you all along for many more Old Forester festivities and the cocktails to enjoy
through them all.
