A Staycation at the infamous ACME Chicago
Recently I had the opportunity of staying at the ACME Hotel in River North Chicago and here are the highlights of my stay.
Upon entering, I was greeted by the wonderful Jennifer, she was so kind and had me feeling so welcome immediately. She helped me set up for morning coffee, which, by the way, can I just say was delicious, and let me know when The Berkshire Room was expecting me, then I was on my way.
The hallways had this travelesque hostel-like vibe. We stayed on the 15th floor and our room has all the IG photo opps you could imagine. There were two sides to the room with the bathroom in the center. One side had a desk, which was great for getting work done in the morning, and the cozy bed. Literally had one of the best sleeps. Above the bed is an awesome tapestry of a big hand print. There are also soft cozy black ACME robes hanging and an Iron board. Last, there is a full length mirror – a necessity for us ladies.
To the other side of the room, was what we called the hangout side. There was plenty of room for an in-room happy hour. Bright orange unique chairs, a comfy couch (Pull out bed), a three-part swivel table and two little stools. There’s a tv and full bar. Normally there is a fully stocked mini bar, but, during the pandemic, it was emptied for our safety. The wall had this epic zipper and the corner has a fun yellow, red and green stoplight-style light. It reminded me a lot of a rock and roll theme. There was a mini-fridge and microwave as well; which is always a big plus for me!
The bathroom was probably the coolest part of the hotel room. It was very nice but, here’s the topper, in the upper corner of the mirror, there are big red lips that light up. Getting ready in this bathroom, I can’t lie, had me feeling like a bad*ss B*tch.
We went down to The Berkshire Room for drinks around 8 and it was the highlight of our stay. The establishment is dimly lit with a speakeasy yet classic vibe and very intimate. They have everyone separated nicely for safety. When it came to ordering drinks, we went with “The Dealers Choice” experience, which is really unique. You start by picking out what kind of liquor you want, then the taste profile, ending with what kind of glass you would like. Every drink they make is different, so Keaton and I both started with bourbon as the spirit. He chose fruity taste in a rocks glass and I chose Sweet and Sour in a coupe. Both drinks were incredible. I wish I could even describe them further but they both were so unique you will just need to go try for yourself! That perfect balance between flavorful and still having a bite.
We got one more round, except this time I went with herbaceous and Keaton kept the same profile. Both of our drinks were completely different and again unique.
The bartenders at The Berkshire Room are very talented and the manager was so on top of making sure we had a good and safe experience. We can’t wait to come back and highly recommend stopping by when visiting Chicago.
We retired to the room and ended the night with a few games of cards in the hangout space then a deep sleep in the cozy beds. We woke up, enjoyed our coffee and felt rested from the wonderful much needed staycation. 2020 has been quite the year for us all and if this night reminded me anything, it was to take a deep breath, give yourself some rest and recharge to get back out there and feel good.
Next time you’re in the city I highly recommend staying at ACME for an unforgettable stay. Cheers!
